What the plan covers
PackUK’s operational plan for 2026–27 includes producer fees with modulation and work on the Recyclability Assessment Methodology. Its programme connects packaging recyclability with the administration of the EPR scheme. The official guidance collection remains the place to check the current documents for reporting and assessment.
The implication for a purchasing team
Our analysis: the useful question is not simply “is this recyclable?” but “what exact pack and evidence are we recording?” A coating, label, closure or change of supplier can matter to the specification. Procurement needs a repeatable way to capture those details, rather than a one-word material description copied from an old spreadsheet.
Build a component record
For each format, record the component names, materials, weights, supplier and revision date. Link the evidence used for the current assessment. Separate measured values from estimates so the team knows which figures still need work. Assign a named internal owner to update the record when the pack changes.
Do not mistake an estimate for a bill
Use the latest official fee and methodology publications for decisions. This briefing intentionally does not turn an illustrative fee table into a live quotation. Applicability and reporting obligations depend on the organisation and packaging involved; the current government guidance should lead those checks.
Bring the record into design reviews
A material decision made after artwork approval can cause another round of proofs. Make specification changes visible at the same meeting as colour and typography changes. The document does not need to be elaborate; it needs to describe the pack that will actually be ordered.
