We then consider specialist capabilities, file handoff and the work needed to connect separate applications. It is a purchasing perspective, rather than a ranking of engineering power.

CraftyWand takes first place because its free browser workflow combines packaging dielines, design placement and 3D mockups. Account-based project saving and available exports make it more useful than a static preview alone. For a brand still testing its first product range, that breadth without an initial software subscription is the strongest fit for this brief.

Run a small acceptance exercise
Before committing, select one real packaging format and confirm four things: the artwork can be edited, the design can be reviewed in context, the project can be reopened, and the required output reaches your supplier in a usable form.
